Baker Brothers Furniture is located at 55 Brennan Street in Watsonville, California. The large building on the corner of Brennan and Fifth Street was originally constructed in the 1930’s as an auto dealership. It closed for a number of years during World War II. The building re-opened in 1946 as Lippert’s Furniture. Brothers, Bob, James and Odell Baker opened Baker Brothers Furniture at the Brennan Street location in 1969 and have continued to serve the community for 40 years. The business continues to be a family owned and operated. David, wife Debbie and their son Justin Baker took over the appliance business in 1998 and then the Furniture business in 2007. They continue to provide customers with family friendly, third generation quality service.
The business has continued to thrive in various economies, natural disasters, and a major remodeling project.
In August 2005 Baker Brothers hosted a “Grand re-Opening” of the newly remodeled building. Customers, both old and new, were treated to a redesigned floor plan with increased flow and higher visibility for the quality products that customers enjoy. The original slogan of Bob Baker one of the original founders continues to be “Treat people right and sleep good at night.” David and Debbie Baker have added to this motto with, “If you see it in the store, you can get it delivered today or tomorrow!”
Baker Brothers is grateful for their great staff and the many loyal customers who continue to support the business. David and Debbie feel grateful to have an exceptional employee in Frank Paiva. Frank provides professional customer service in his native language, Portuguese, as well as English and Spanish. Frank is also responsible for arranging the furniture sales floor. Rosalio Flores is another long-term employee providing professional appliance installation, as well as quality furniture delivery and installation. Rosalio has been employed at Baker Brothers for 19 years and is another local resident. Baker Brothers has several additional employees, Maria Zamora sales support, and son Justin Baker delivery support. David and Debbie both believe that when you live and work in a community, that local community deserves your charitable support. Debbie Baker is a long term Girl Scout Leader and volunteer. David volunteers with the American Red Cross, the Rotary Club, and is involved with Leadership Santa Cruz County. This organization provides training and perspective for county and community leaders. Baker Brothers has a large collection of plaques and awards as testimonials to the charitable community involvement provided by the business over the years. Most notable are the membership plaques for the Western Home Furnishings Association and The Brand source buying group. However the most exciting award that has been bestowed on the Baker Brothers business was received after the store remodel in 2006. The 2006 Business of the Year Award was presented to Baker Brothers Furniture and Appliance store by the Pajaro Valley Chamber Commerce, as well as a proclamation by the Watsonville City Council and the State Assembly for the years of community service. Baker Brothers continues to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, both Watsonville, Anzar, and Pajaro Valley High School, Lakeview Middle School, and many other local elementary schools. Other contributions include St. Patrick’s Church, Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry, and CRIMP, the local Portuguese community.
